"HATE NOT THE PERSON BUT THE SIN?"

Are Filipinos a bunch of confused individuals? I guess not...I hope not.

If surveys are to be believed, many are against the many policies Duterte is selling...and yet, Duterte is able to separate himself from the shadow of his bad policies and still is considered popular?

Or, his 'so-called popularity' is just a mere product of an effective public relations, call it fanaticism if you will; hyped by paid trolls and fake news?

Let us talk about three major issues that would define his so-called popularity, if the people are willing to go blindly in supporting his policies:

***Pivot to China and the West Philippine Sea:

No one is buying his sales pitch that his pivot to China will be beneficial to the country. Surveys would indicate a -7% trust rating of China. A high awareness of the conflict with China and the inability of the government to prevent the Chinese from encroaching in our own fishing grounds.

99% awareness, knew that the government the Chinese are using the reclaimed islands as military bases.

In a December 2018 survey, it showed that 89% of respondents considered regaining control of the islands, and favored a more proactive policy stand against China's aggression.

88% percent believed it was wrong to ignore China’s construction activities in areas claimed by the Philippines.

93% wanting the country's military to strengthen its capabilities, especially, the country's naval force.
And 77% is in favor of mobilizing international support for our diplomatic objectives.

***On Federalism - Charter Change:

One of the flagship election promises of Duterte...but to the government's dismay, a dismal net support of 8%, shattering the alleged or so-called clamor, cry for Federalism.
As in 8% despite the campaign and caravan launched by the propaganda arm of the government (PCOO) domestic and abroad.

***War On Drugs:

Latest survey would show that 95% of respondents indicated their wanting to have the suspects captured ALIVE.

Followed by a 66% saying the existence of EJK, the police are killing drug suspects. 68% believed that the police are involved in drug trading and 58% believed that the police are planting evidence.

One should note that Duterte's disgust on his critics when it comes to his war on drugs. He specifically targetted his critics, the Human Rights (local and the international), the European Union, the United States of America, International Criminal Court, including the Catholic church hierarchy. Almost all, backfired.

54% respondents were aware of the complaints against the drug war presented to the International Criminal Court (ICC); 40% knew about Duterte‘s decision to leave the ICC.

But despite continued attack or ranting by Duterte publicly, against the ICC and the United Nation, particularly the Human rights - the ICC’s trust rating even rose from +20 to +30 in 2018. The United Nations had a net trust rating of +61, followed by the United States at +60.

No official survey conducted about the Catholic Church, particularly on his tirades against the Catholic church; but it apparently is galvanizing more support and sympathies for the church, rather than hatred; solidifying the organizations more.

If one is to believed that the president has still the majority support of the public, one cannot discount the glaring facts or question as to "why he can't get the support of the majority when it comes to his major policies?"

Disconnect or Filipinos judges a leader separately from the sin against the person?

As what the christian faith would teach us, "hate not the person but the sin?"

On the surface, are we saying that we don't support the president's governance but we still love him? A total disconnect or a false narrative?

I doubt it...as in any president or a leader, you cannot separate the shadow of a bad leadership from the leader, or vice versa. They are one and the same, when it comes to leadership.

I say, Duterte is now living the illusion; one can only hide his iniquities for a certain period of time, but not all the time.

His public relations and trolls may continue to exist but they are now exposed, and being treated as 'bad news' or literally the fake news makers.

The coming mid-term election this May will surely be a referendum of the Filipino people...how the people will vote could determine if the president really holds the majority support of the Filipino people or how they disgust him.

I can even predict that his open or public support for his candidates may even spell as a KISS OF DEATH, a death wish.

Let me get bolder...it is time to get even? A no vote for his (former) trusted aide and preferred senators would spell the beginning of his downfall.

The analysis was based on the Inquirer's article...'trusting Duterte?'
